The Egress Window Well
Remember how Roy was so productive last week? And I predicted that he would complete both of our egress windows over the weekend? Well my prediction was an exaggeration, but still he got more done than any typical person would have!
So for those who don't know what I'm talking about, let me try to explain. Our basement windows are little tiny things right at ground level. When I'm in the basement, the windows are above my head and give very dim lighting. We're going to replace two of them with larger windows. The larger windows will let in more light and act as escape routes in case of a fire.
Roy started on the first window over the weekend. First, he had to dig a big hole next to the foundation to clear space on that wall to install a larger window. In one day, he had most of the hole dug.

Next, he framed the hole to hold back the soil away from the window.

This window well frame is special because it is terraced so you can use it as steps if escape through the window is necessary. Plus, each step doubles as a flower bed! I love it!

The next step in the process is to replace the window, of course. I don't know when that will happen, but I will definitely show off the results.
