A Hectic Week

Well, you've heard about most of my hectic week: skunk, laundry, broken washing machine . . . plus I had errands to run every day and Melise's nap schedule got all messed up. But I'm not the only one who's busy - the farm country burst to life this past week!
Above, you can see our neighbor combining millet and Big Roy was finally able to get out and do some of that himself (see the earlier story). The millet was cut and left to dry on the ground. Now that it's dry, the combine picks it up and processes it. Other farmers were out hauling hay or fertilizing wheat.

This is the winter wheat breaking forth from its dormancy and turning our countryside green again!

Out running errands this past week, I often came across large farm equipment on the move. Our gravel roads are plenty wide enough for two sedans to pass each other. There's still enough room in this situation, but you can imagine how big the oncoming tractor is compared to me. Coming from a city background, I still grit my teeth when passing things like this!
Melise and I took advantage of the nicest day this last week to hang out in town. We stopped for lunch at The Daily Grind and Melise was reminded of her love for their giant cookies!

Alas, a cold front has put a chilly, windy ending to our lovely spring week. Yesterday, the storm started moving in with 30 mph gusts. It was just my luck that Roy had fixed the washer the night before, so I had towels out on the line. Luckily, the wind only blew one of the towels off and just tangled the rest on the line. They were dry, at least! Today we've had sleet and snow blowing sideways past the windows. I'm dreaming of the wind turbine that we will install soon!

A farm lit by the afternoon sun with dark storm clouds behind it. I love this lighting situation and the plains is especially good at providing it!
