Bobcat Deterrents

Last week, Roy was woken in the middle of the night by loud noises outside. He ran to the window that has a clear view of the chicken house and saw a very large animal climbing over the roof! He threw on his jacket and shoes, grabbed his shot gun, and flew out the back door. The door slamming must have scared the animal because Roy just got a view of it running away. He said it was very large and very fast.

I slept through the whole thing.

Anyhow, our best guess is that we have a bobcat in our area. We regularly hear the howls of coyotes in the night - Roy even saw some hunting in a field near our house a while back - but he said it just didn't move like a coyote. In my mind, I find bobcats and coyotes equally scary.

Roy did some shopping around and found an interesting predator deterrent that has good reviews.

It's a little box with a blinking red light and a solar panel to charge the battery. The idea is that the hunting predator will see the light and think it is the glint of another predator's eye in the dark. The predator will hopefully stay away because it doesn't want to fight over its meal or become one itself.

Like I said, it got good reviews. We'll just give this baby a shot and see how it does!
