Chickens are a Challenge to the Garden
I got home from California on Sunday. It was a little hard to return to Colorado where the trees are leafless and the grass is brown after seeing all the plants a-blooming in CA. BUT THEN, my darling husband announced that the tulips were coming up - I was so excited! Until he told me that the chickens were eating them down to just stubble. Ugh!
So I went on a little scavenger hunt today to assess the damage. Here's the tulips:

That's pretty sad looking, right?
How about the irises?

Same deal.
Ah, but here's something they haven't found . . .

My crocuses! So far they are untouched! But how long will they stay that way? I covered them over lightly with some dead grass in hopes that it will hide them from the little feathered thieves! Obviously that isn't going to protect them for long . . . anyone have any suggestions? Maybe I should plant them a pallet of grass to munch on, like you do for indoor cats?
At least this is only a short term problem because soon all the other plants will start growing too. Hopefully the birds will find something less decorative as a snack! Fingers crossed!
P.S. I still have popped wheat to give away!
