Popped Wheat

I just got back to Colorado yesterday. I left a foggy, gray California and landed in a foggy, gray Colorado. I was really nervous that my flight would arrive just in time for a blizzard, but the air was calm and the ground was dry - thank goodness! At home, the exhaustion hit Melise and me hard and I barely noticed when Roy told me that snow was falling. This morning greeted us with a few inches of fresh snow on the ground. What a warm welcome home!

While I was gone, Roy's business (Chinook Energy) had a booth at the Phillips County Taste of Ag. It's a show where all businesses in the county are invited to have a booth as long as they serve some kind of food. People pay a little to get into the show and then they walk around all the different vendor tables, munching as they go. It's really a cool idea and there's always good food. Anyhow, that all happened while I was gone (I'm sorry that I forgot to put it on my calendar - bad Susan!).

Roy served popped wheat at his table. Popped wheat is fried whole wheat berries. It doesn't pop like popcorn, but instead looks just like the original berry. When you eat it, though, it's really crunchy like corn nuts!
Roy puts a little salt on it. It's sooooo good and so very addictive!



Mmmm . . . doesn't it look tasty? You can eat it straight or throw it on a salad - yum!

Well, it turns out that this year's Taste of Ag had a lot of conflicts with other community events, so it didn't have a great turn out. On the upside, Roy came home with a bunch of popped wheat and I feel like sharing!
