Never thought I'd do that!

Until I moved to the country, I never thought I'd . . .

  • Live on 12 acres of land in the middle of a wheat field
  • Live almost a mile from my nearest neighbor
  • Drive 40 miles to get to the nearest McDonalds
  • Have a side of beef in my freezer (including the tongue and heart)
  • Have guineas and chickens running around my yard
  • Collect fresh eggs
  • Wash chicken poop off my daughter's hands
  • Grind my own flour
  • Ride in a combine
  • Know what a combine is!
  • Drive on gravel roads to get to my house
  • Drive on gravel roads after it rains or snows
  • Get my car stuck in the middle of a muddy gravel road
  • Plant an orchard in my yard
  • Plant 200 iris bulbs in a straight line
  • Watch my lawn get mowed by a tractor
  • Go to the grocery store before a blizzard hits just in case we get trapped by the snow
  • Watch a tractor clear snowdrifts from my driveway
  • Feed 7 cats (or more depending on how many tom cats are visiting that day)
  • Kill a rattle snake with a shovel
  • Kill a rattle snake with a shovel two days in a row
  • Hear coyotes howling at night
  • Have only the light of the moon and the stars coming through my window each night
