Here's to Summer!

Ode to the Summer Almost Past!

Here's to a summer so cool and rain-laden.
Felt like Spring till July and now feels like autumn.
The grass actually grew thanks to the moisture
and I actually mowed it (thank goodness that's over!).

My hubby was productive like I've never seen:
Six raised beds, a flower garden, built and made green.
A clothes line, a trellis, all strong and neat.
Even built a chicken house and filled it with keets.

Veggies were slim, just a few squash and maters,
Roy's pumpkin, his pride, and a few buttery potaters.

The eggplant's all flowers and the cabbage is still small.
Please, if your kind, don't mention watermelons at all!

My flower garden was planted with all our old seed
And the only thing that grew were transplants and weeds!
Roy gave me some borage (never heard of it before).
It grew into a wild beast with dainty blue flowers.

This summer was kind to a little girl, it's true.
She ate dirt, chased cats, and fed the birds, too!
My baby, like the weather, is changing too fast.
We'll celebrate her first year as soon as summer's past!

This is what happens when I've nothing better to post.
I make bad rhymes about the season that I love the most.
What will I write when I'm surrounded by snow?
A blizzard?  A snow drift?  Oh summer, please don't go!
