Fuzz to Feathers, Stripes to Spots

Roy said something to me a few days about how those guineas sure are getting their spots. I was a little confused because they had always appeared rather mottled to me . . . was I missing something? Well, sure enough, if you take a closer look at them, like the picture above, you can see that their light camouflage stripes are growing out and being replaced with striking spots!

| You can see signs of adulthood in the chickens, too. The barred rocks have almost completely lost their fuzz (pictured at right). And the reds have definitely turned red (see below)! Speaking of barred rocks, one got its head stuck in the chicken wire! Roy pulled it out and its fine. There is a bit of a streak of curiosity in these birds that may get them in trouble. I'm glad one of our cats didn't come across it first. But then, depending on the cat, it may have just got a tongue bath and nothing more! Other than that, the guineas and chickens have been living a calm and predictable life. We plan to change it up soon. They need to start learning about the outside world, so very soon we will give them supervised trips out of the chicken house. Till then! | ![]() |
