Farm Cats: Ammended

The second time was about a month ago. I looked out the window and spotted a yellow and white kitten peeking out from under one of our cars! As far as I know, kittens don't just wander for miles in the countryside. There were a few people who came and went from our place that day, so I'm guessing it hitched a ride on one of their cars. I made some phone calls to see if anyone was missing a kitten, but no one was.
Now the kitten is quite at home. At first the other cats hissed at it and didn't want to share their food, but the kitten persisted and finally made friends. I've seen her playing with the older cats and they even brought her a little critter to let her practice hunting.
One thing about having farm cats, going to the vet for things like their shots is more trouble than its worth to catch the animal, freak it out with a twenty mile drive each way, and then release it into your yard again and hope it doesn't run away! Then imagine having to do that with five or more cats! So you end up getting the shots from the vet and doing it yourself! The first time I did this myself Roy had to help hold the kittens and there was a lot of fumbling and apologies because my needle skills were not so hot. Luckily, my skills have greatly improved because this kitten gave me one chance only to catch her and stick that needle in her - she hasn't let me near her again since! Oh well, she'll be my friend eventually because I'm the woman with the food!
