Miller Moths

Last night, I pulled myself off the sofa around 10pm to go brush my teeth.  As I walked into the bathroom, I pulled the cord that turns on the vanity lights over the mirror.  A flurry of motion exploded in front of me with flutter, flutter, flutter of wings and dink, dink, dink as ten moths bounced off the walls in confusion.  I cursed under my breath - it's miller moth season.

These little buggers show up as if from nowhere in spring.  They swarm every light you have.  They're rather large and clumsy, so I have no idea how they get in the house so easily, but screens don't seem to stop them!

As the summer wears on they gradually dissapear again and you forget about them until next spring.

I suppose I prefer moths over snakes!

Moths huh? Up here in Alaska we have Mosquito season. Melt season loves to breed mosquitos as big as your fingernail! And unlike the ones in Cali - you can't feel them biting you until after they have bitten and flown off. Arrrgh.

Hey Shawnee!  We have mosquitoes, too, just not yet and definitely not that big!  I wouldn't have thought of Alaska as having much of them, but I suppose they live everywhere.

I have another tale of moths.  Last night, I got out of bed in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and discovered a plethora of moths worshiping the bathroom nightlight!  It was quite a shock to see moths covering the ceiling and walls.  I removed the nightlight and was immediately attacked by unhappy moths. I ran for my life!  This morning all the moths were gone!  But I swear I didn't dream it!
