The Daily Grind

The Daily Grind - a local coffee haven! I missed getting a picture of the owner, Laurie, but this is one of the lovely baristas at the coffee bar!
If I have an addiction it's coffee, especially if it's the rich, sweet, frothy steamed milk with espresso kind. My biggest fear moving to a small town was lack of espresso. A lot of small towns will fool you because the local breakfast/lunch/dinner cafe is often called a coffee shop, too, but that just means they have a hot pot of coffee ready for you. I'm not insulting those cafes - they often have the best breakfast in town - but if you're hankering for a latte you better go elsewhere.
Upon moving to Haxtun three years ago I learned that I had a few choices for coffee, but they were a 20-40 min drive away. I did find the opportunity to taste-test those places and I wasn't thoroughly impressed. My biggest weakness is mochas (espresso, steamed milk and chocolate), but so few places make a good one. The best I ever had was from Peets Coffee: rich, dark, aromatic with less emphasis on the sugar and more on the chocolate!
| So anyhow . . . to the topic at hand: The Daily Grind. It was opened
quite recently by Laurie (in case you ever hear it called "Laurie's
place"). I was reluctant to go sample their wares and find yet another
sub-standard mocha, but I am happy to report that they have darn good
mochas! In fact they are
avoid-driving-past-in-case-I-spend-all-my-money-on-mochas good! And
the baristas are very pleasant and attentive in making your coffee the
way you like it (yes, I'm one of those people that gives detailed
instructions for my coffee and will audibly grumble if it's wrong). Oh yeah, they serve pastries, soups, sandwiches, and desserts, too. | ![]() |
This is the front entrance of the Daily Grind. This place is hidden away in a corner a block off main street in a seemingly unlikely spot (which is part of its charm). So I hope you all go a little out of your way to find this hidden treasure. The Daily Grind 106 E Strohm St (see map) 970-774-5282 | ![]() |
