Town Hall

| The town hall of Haxtun is a lovely sight on main street.
Even if you're just driving through town, I recommend visiting this
building. It was built in 1939 as the First National Bank. On the inside is simple but lovely woodwork, tiled
floors, and vaulted ceilings. The town clerk, Karie and her assistant,
Barb, have their desks behind a teller counter. Somewhere in the back
is a vault, too. I tried to take pictures inside, but couldn't really do it justice. The decor now is much cozier than it probably was as a bank. There is a buletin board and table with information for residents and visitors. There is also a quilt hanging in one corner with pictures of buildings in Haxtun, both current and historic. This is the center of town business, of course. For town residents, this is where you pay your electric bill, trash, and water. Town board meetings take place the first Mondays of each month in their meeting room in the back. The open front room is often used for special functions during Corn Festival and the Christmas shopping night. I consider the ladies at the town hall to be a great town resource. They know just about every community leader and organization in town. If you're ever unsure about the date of an event or who to contact about it, just call them (I'm sure they really appreciate me saying that, too). | ![]() |
