Haxtun Hideaway and PAK Enterprises

This is the adorable Haxtun Hideaway. It's a little house for rent by the night. Currently, it is the only place to stay in town unless you have a relative's house available. Despite the lack of choices, this is also a very nice place to stay. We like it because it's in town, as opposed to the closest hotel at 20 miles away. It's also slightly cheaper than the hotels.
My parents stayed here for my wedding and for the birth of my daughter. I remember getting into my wedding dress in the living room of the house and then driving mere blocks to the park where we had our service. I also remember laying on the sofa wishing my contractions would start and the baby would come already (don't worry, no babies were delivered in the house). Good memories in that little house.
Haxtun Hideaway has only been in business for 2 years. It's owned by Pat, who I consider an excellent example of the entrepreneurs that seem to develop in small towns. She also owns PAK Enterprises, an office supply store and print shop across the street from the Hideaway. I bet she makes a lot of the graduation announcements and wedding invitations for people around town.
The office supply store is a good example of the Haxtun businesses that you might never know exist unless you ask a local. When I first started working in Haxtun, I thought I'd have to go to Walmart (30 miles away) to get an ink cartridge and paper until someone told me to go to Pat's. Just like Velda's, I was baffled by what they were talking about, but hidden in a residential neighborhood is a little store with almost everything you'll need or the ability to order it!

Wonderful to know a place in Town exists for visitors to stay vs the Motel in Sterling. We will keep it in mind for our next trip to Haxtun.

The four of us stayed here over Christmas. The house was warm and cozy. Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year were very cold and had lots of blowing snow so it was nice to have a place to stay in town instead of having to travel in from the farm (or Sterling for that matter) each day.
